The Railroad museum is housed in former Estacion Cristina, the main Station of the Empresa
Ferrocarril del Oeste (Ferrocarril Company of the West), a company founded in 1859 and
whose primary interests were the transport of tobacco from the western region of the island.
Cristina Station itself was opened in 1861. In 2002, the station was declared a national monument and dedicated as
Museo del Ferrocarril de Cuba (the Railroad Museum of Cuba).
