Cuba - Ice Cream Factory

Cuba is known for it's ice cream.  Ice cream is simply a part of Cuban culture.  It is no wonder that it is so in this hot country.  Something sweet and cold on a steamy hot day!  There is nothing so sweet as Socialist ice cream.

We had the opportunity to tour a large ice cream and yogurt factory in Bayamo during our stay in Granma province.  The factory operates with machinery that was new in the 1950s.  Since that time, the U.S. blockade of Cuba has prevented the import of new machinery that would modernize the factory.  In spite of this, the workers continue to produce tons of the tastey cold stuff to the delight of the citizens.

An interesting study by Marks & Spence "Ice Cream Index" shows Cuba to be the most affordable vacation destination.
