Designed to carry a crew of 19, the Granma set sail from Mexico with 82 Rebel fighters intent upon
ousting the dictator Batista. The landing of the Granma in December of 1956 was a disaster, with all
but 12 of Fidel's fighters being caught or killed. In spite of that, Fidel and the rebel fighters went on to
topple the corrupt Batista government.
