Velocipedes (French for "swift footed") like this one were used by Cuban track inspectors
looking for damage and signs of wear.

The velocipede was set in motion by a combination of pushing and pulling on the pedals
and handgrips. The vehicle needed to be light, as track inspectors usually travelled alone
and had to be able to set off and turn around by themselves. Wood was used to keep light
and maneuvarable.
