After finding the restaurant we had intended to eat at was closed,
we followed a suggestion of a local Cuban who recommended a
nearby place that was run by a group of students. When we arrived at
the building which was described as the site of the El Tablao
de Pancho, we were a bit unsure of what we might find inside the
ordinary (and somewhat run-down) building. But when we proceeded up
the worn marble staircase to the second floor, we entered a
well-appointed restaurant which had obviously been carefully designed
and
decorated quite recently.
To our surpise, there on a slightly elevated
stage were a group of very professional looking young dancers and
musicians who entertained
us with the most beautiful belly dancing
while we enjoyed a wonderful meal. Lance in his best Spanish described
the dancers as
"bellybutton" dancers, much to the delight of
the staff.
