It was in this room that Che's remains were brought in 1997 after they were found in Bolivia where he was murdered. In a six day-long ceremony, thousands
of Cubans filed past his coffin and paid their respects. Later his remains were transferred to the huge monument on a hill overlooking the city.

Che died in 1967 while fighting for a revolution in Bolivia. His troops were overtaken by the Bolivian Army. Eventually he was captured , and the Bolivians and CIA executed him, burying his remains in a secret grave.
